Hij trouwde op 29 oktober 1925 op 57-jarige leeftijd met de twintig jaar jongere Sara Meijer, geboren in Dordrecht op 13 januari 1889. Sara was het negende kind van Mozes Meijer en Elisabeth Barkelau en werkte voor haar huwelijk als huishoudster in Middelburg. Voor hun nicht Elisabeth Barkelau \u2013 een dochter van Levies oudere broer Samuel \u2013 werd al eerder in Middelburg een struikelsteen gelegd.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Over het leven van Sara en Levie Barkelau in Goes, waar Levie als winkelier gevestigd was, is nauwelijks iets te vinden. Uit advertenties in de kranten blijkt echter dat hij een gerespecteerd inwoner van de stad was. Tussen 1924 en 1938 wordt Levie in diverse oproepen genoemd als contactpersoon bij oproepen voor donaties aan goede doelen. Hij was lid van het Zeeuwsch Comit\u00e9 tot Steunverleening aan Joodsche vluchtelingen, onderschreef een oproep voor het houden van een loterij voor de Joodsche Invalide en werkte mee aan een collecte van het Goesche Comit\u00e9 voor de vluchtelingen wegens geloof of ras. Over Sara\u2019s leven in de ganzenstad is tot nu toe geen informatie gevonden.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Volgens een tekst over de familie Meijer op de website van de Stichting Stolpersteine in Dordrecht zou Sara in Goes door de bezetter zijn opgepakt. Dit is niet juist. Op haar persoonskaart in het Gemeentearchief van Goes staat vermeld dat zij op 11 juli 1942 naar Amsterdam vertrok en haar intrek nam aan de Saffierstraat 89. Later verhuisde zij naar Rijnstraat 92.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Hoewel over Levies vertrek geen gegevens werden gevonden, lijkt het aannemelijk dat ook hij in het voorjaar van 1942 uit Zeeland naar Amsterdam vertrok.
